A seven-second clip does not show security personnel with fake arms walking behind the former U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania during the 2017 presidential inauguration parade. Although the short video shows the individuals with their hands placed relatively still while walking behind the former president, a longer version of the scene shows the security personnel moving their hands at multiple points.

The clip circulating online opens with a view of what appears to be two security personnel, walking with their elbows bent and hands still. Red circles are viewable circled around the individuals’ hands, with text burned on the clip that reads: “Presidential guards with fake arms” (here).

Other examples of the clip shared online can be viewed (here), and (bit.ly/3OTLruk).

The clip only shows a portion of available footage of the personnel walking behind the Trumps during the inauguration parade, and although throughout longer versions of the parade footage show both individuals keeping their arms and hands relatively still, their hands do indeed move at different points, discrediting the online claims.

The woman wearing the white shirt in the short clip can be seen adjusting her jacket at the right of frame in a longer video of Trump’s walk along the parade route (25s) (bit.ly/3buphBg).

The male individual wearing a blue shirt and claret tie can also be seen adjusting his jacket in a clip of the inauguration parade (33s) (bit.ly/3zt9db0).

False. Longer versions of footage filmed during the 2017 presidential inauguration parade show the security personnel moving their hands at various points.
