Back in May, the Province of Benguet passed Provincial Ordinance 2022-302 which requires all motorcycle riders (residents and visitors) to wear a reflective vest if they are riding within the jurisdiction of the said province. That includes Baguio, of course.

Barely three months after its implementation, Governor Melchor Diclas has signed Executive Order 2022-011 suspending Provincial Ordinance 2022-302 until further notice.

“Pending the introduction of amendments to the ordinance, implementation of the same is hereby suspended until further notice,” said Section 1 of EO 2022-011.

The governor also added that during the information and education campaign of the PO 2022-302, he found merit in the concerns and recommendations that were presented by the stakeholders in attendance. The government will re-evaluate the ordinance to incorporate such inputs.

PO 2022-302 penalizes motorcycle riders which ranges from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500. For first-time offenders, the penalty for not wearing a reflectorized vest is PHP 500.00, the second offense warrants a PHP 1,000.00 penalty while the third offense will land you a PHP 1,500.00 penalty or a 3-day community service at the concerned barangay where you were apprehended.
